Lean Construction is all about minimizing waste in order to generate the maximum possible value for our clients. Lean construction is an adaptation of lean manufacturing principles and practices to the end-to-end design and construction process. Unlike manufacturing, construction is a project based-production process. Lean construction is concerned with the holistic pursuit of concurrent and continuous improvements in all dimensions of the built and natural environment: design, construction, activation, maintenance, salvaging, and recycling. This approach tries to manage and improve construction processes with minimum cost and maximum value by considering client needs. (Koskela et al. 2002)
C.A.Murren has made a strong commitment in becoming a Lean Construction Organization. During the last several years we have systematically become a highly predictable and efficient organization focused on the elimination of waste in all aspects of our company. This translates to more value for our clients, helping us to stay well above the competition. Lean Construction at C.A.Murren is all about:
- QUALITY - Setting requirements for everything we do, agreeing on those requirements and doing things correctly the first time to conform to those requirements.
- PREDICTABLE dependable work flow from the owner down to the crew level
- SMOOTH PRODUCTION FLOW with minimal stops and starts due to uncertainties
- Creating INFORMATION FLOW and ONGOING COMMUNICATION across multiple entities such as Owner, Engineer, GC, CAM Project Manger, Superintendent and Foremen.
- HONORING COMMITTMENTS - Ensuring that we do what we say we're going to do, and when we do not, learning WHY we didn't.
- PREVENTION of waste, headaches, uncertainties, accidents and general "fire fighting"
- LEARNING what we're currently doing compared with what we can potentially do.
Although we have progressed steadily over the last several years, C.A.Murren's journey to become a Lean Construction Organization will never be complete. With changing technology, people, and times, we will always be adapting and changing. The speed at which we adapt and change and our reliance upon the principles behind Lean Construction and our pillars of success will ensure that we'll be both profitable and predictable for years to come.
